Not too big game for the Atlanta Falcons. A flood of small plays made the difference.
Matt Ryan threw two passes and directed an offense dominant landing that three St. Louis Rams defenders left with cramps 34-17 victory Sunday. All goals in the chip-shot set up, too.
BOX SCORE: Falcons 34, Rams 17
"We want to score more touchdowns," said Ryan. "All in all, three good points on offense."
Sam Bradford was a pair of touchdown passes the Rams set NFL record with 169 consecutive passes without rookie interception. Streak ended when William Moore chose to go shovel the 2 with 3:24 to go, snuffing that could drive this one game, score.
"I wish it was 98 (yards)," Moore said. "But overall it was just a great player."
Moore returned the ball only 12 yards. And yet it was the clincher as the Falcons (8-2) won their fourth straight and ended four-game home winning streak Rams.
"I need to make sure he's there," said Bradford. "I can not throw it on the blind."
Bradford was a great start with 99 yards passing touchdown in the first quarter. Rams (06/04) had six first downs in the first quarter, but only nine the rest of the way, and Bradford finished 27 for 42 for 233 yards.
"We knew the time would be holding a large part in this game," said Bradford. "We knew that if we want a chance to win and we need to be on the field as they are, and it was not the case."
Ryan was 26 of 39 for 253 yards with a touchdown pass to Brian and Justin Peelle Finneran and Roddy White to set up the score with nine catches for 83 yards. Ryan has five touchdown passes without interception last two games and threw on gains of 10 yards or more seven shelters.
"We've been efficient on offense the last four or five weeks," says Ryan. "Looking ahead, there is a kind of recipe for success. You will be hard to beat."
St. Louis defense forced three short field goals, but I could not get the field fast enough against the Atlanta offense that had several drives that lasted 6:39 and 7:06, and held the ball almost 36 minutes. Rams were gassed, so security Oshiomoghe Atogwe and Ron Bartell and cornerbacks Justin King all the time missed with cramps.
Atlanta ran 70 plays, mostly in cluster No. St. Louis ran 54 plays.
"When you're outside, try to cover, capture it depends on you," said Bartell. "We must do a better job, of course, so far says we hydrate properly before the game."
Michael Turner was untouched on a -39 yard run the first play after the two-minute warning the White caught converted to 2 - point. Turner had 131 yards on 28 carries for his fourth game 100 - yard.
Rams did not allow more than 17 points of the first five games at home.
St. Louis led 10-3 at the beginning of the second quarter after Josh Brown hit a field goal this season best 53 - yard, and again at 17-16 early in the third after Bradford and Brandon Gibson teamed up with a fade pattern 13 - yard.
Be the first interception in five games for Leeds, No. 1 pick, which flourished despite a group of pass catchers unique.
Bradford showed his strong arm on a pass touchdown in his first, roll right and throw the power on completion of 25 - yard to rookie tight end Mike Hoomanawanui.
Eric Weems him back kick 55 - yard second quarter before the helmet, as Jerome Murphy and finally passed him on the Rams 47, setting the score Finneran.
